DNS Resolver DiagnosticWhat is an IP Address?
An Internet Protocol (IP) address is a unique numerical label assigned to each device connected to a computer network that uses the Internet Protocol for communication. An IP address serves two main functions: host or network interface identification and location addressing.
Internet Protocol version 4 (IPv4) defines an IP address as a 32-bit number. However, because of the growth of the Internet and the depletion of available IPv4 addresses, a new version of IP (IPv6), using 128-bit for the IP address, was standardized in 1998. Use our IP lookup tool to check details for any IPv4 or IPv6 address.
Why Check Your IP?
- Verify VPN Connection: Ensure your real IP is hidden when using a VPN. Run a WebRTC leak test and compare with our DNS resolver diagnostic for extra context.
- Troubleshoot Network Issues: Use our ping test to measure latency and diagnose connectivity problems.
- Developer Configuration: Check DNS records or verify host reachability for your infrastructure.
- Domain Research: Run a WHOIS lookup or reverse DNS lookup to investigate domains and IP ownership.
